This is a large site that requires a lot of time and administration. Individuals who break the rules will get banned without any warning. We may, at our discretion, choose to forewarn individuals we feel have made innocent mistakes.

You may be banned if you upload offensive images. Moderators will exercise their own discretion with borderline images. If in doubt, don't upload.

Pornography
Pornography and nudity is not allowed. Some tasteful artistic representations (paintings, drawings) of semi-nudity may be allowed.

Violent images
Morbid, frightening, or threatening images are not allowed. Tasteful, artistic depictions of blood and vampirism are allowed. Images of real blood are not allowed. Images of you covered in fake blood can appear too real and are not usually tasteful. No images of self-harm are allowed.

Images of children
Representations of children who play characters in films or professional stock-image model shots (i.e. babies dressed as fairies) may be allowed.

We request that for your own and your family's protection you do not upload pictures of your children to the internet, no matter how innocent they are. We remove all pictures of children that we find on the network. If the images are in your profile page, our only option is to ban you for your own safety.

We request that teenagers do not publish suggestive images of themselves in sexy poses or in skimpy outfits (e.g. bikinis, underwear). We will remove any pictures we consider suggestive. Again, this is for your own safety.

Individuals who post inappropriate content may be banned at the moderator's discretion. Individuals who get banned by the moderators have all of their content deleted automatically. This is not reversible.

Pornography
We allow the publishing of erotic/pornographic writing in private i.e. invite-only groups. Do not post  pornographic writing in the comments section, only in the group forum, as the comments section is public. Do not post pornographic writing in blog posts or on your profile page. Please keep a copy of your writing, as if you post it in the wrong place, you run the risk of having it deleted.

Suicide
We do not allow any discussion of suicide on this website. Unfortunately, the moderators cannot help in these situations as we have no more information about users than you do. Fellow users are not counsellors and may unwittingly do more harm than good if they try to help people without the aide of training or professional advice. Please direct users to The Samaritans or another suicide prevention organisation, where skilled counsellors can help them. It is not the job of fellow users or moderators to counsel people who threaten suicide.

Self-harm, anorexia, bulimia
We allow limited discussion of self-harm and anorexia/bulimia, only in the context of prevention and support in getting over these disorders. Any individual who appears to encourage self-harm or anorexia/bulimia will be banned. It is not cool to upload pictures of you cutting or scratching your arms. Do not do it.

Scamming and grooming
Any individual acting in a suspicious manner towards younger network members will be banned instantly and for life. Sometimes teenage members send out appeals for "real vampires" to contact them and turn them into vampires. Any individual who claims to be a "real vampire" or attempts to arrange such a meeting will be banned. IP addresses and content are logged. If we have the slightest reason to suspect members are attempting to groom, we will contact the police.

Copyright violations
Do not steal writing, poetry, images, or other content from other members or from this network (for example, this rules page, people's blog posts, people's images). If you violate copyright by stealing content, legal advice will be sought.

Advertising is a form of theft
Do not promote your own social network on this site. Fairies and Vampires is run as a business. Promoting your own network on this site is free advertising and we consider it theft - of members, and income. We take this very seriously. If you own a group, do not post a social network url on your group's homepage, as we will be forced to delete your group. Do not post your network on your profile page, as we will be forced to ban you.

Slander
When someone is banned for breaking the rules, their friends have a habit of spreading lies/rumours/slander/propaganda about the moderators or the website. Do not spread untruths about the moderators. We take this very seriously. Do not send the moderators abuse, or you will be banned too.

Trolling
We do not ban people simply for trolling (i.e. teasing/causing arguments/playing funny or light-hearted pranks). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you don't agree, stick up for yourself. If trolling becomes abusive, breaks the rules, or begins to resemble bullying, baiting or stalking, we will ban. If trolling incites ill-natured abuse from other members, the abusive members will be banned. Posting abusive forum threads about other members or leaving threatening comments on their profile page is not acceptable behaviour. We take bullying very seriously.

Grassing
We do not punish people for telling on others who break the rules. This site is very big and we appreciate it when members help us to moderate the site. If you have a problem with something on the site, rather than posting questions on the forum or your blog, please contact us and we will help. Be aware however that asking the moderators to ban lots of members is very suspicious behaviour!

Finally
Be kind and pleasant in your online communications, and try to follow the rules of netiquette. We hope you will enjoy the community we have created, but if you find any material posted on Fairies and Vampires that you think breaks the rules, report it to us straight away.
